All I want for christmas is…….

Games coming out next year.

Hey NERDlings sorry for the delay in post this past week but I was a little more busy than normal with school and work.  Thank goodness for NERD. Anyway I wanted to make this post about four of the games I am most looking forward to coming out next year for each platform.

Xbox 360

I enjoyed the first game and had more fun just going around using all the different weapons and not playing the story through. This sequel appears to have kicked up the crazy weapons scale and has a multiplayer mini game mode too.

Playstation 3

I’m showing off my nerdiness with this one I know. I really enjoyed FFX and this game looks to be awesome. Your summons turn into vehicles in this one.

Wii

I LOVED the first game so of course I want to play the sequel. It promises to be bigger, better looking, more boss fights, and even crazier. Travis Touchdown is seeking revenge for the killing of his best friend and no one will be able to stand in his way.

Multiplatform

Here is a link incase the video gets pulled by the time you read this. http://arkhamhasmoved.com/ This looks to be the story of No Mans Land. Another critically acclaimed Batman graphic novel like Arkham Asylum. In the book Gotham is struck by a cataclysmic earthquake and the city is given up on by the federal government. The city becomes a lawless place where the super villains are fighting each other for control of different areas of the city. Batman is trying to bring peace to the land in his own way and is at odds with his former ally commissioner Gordon who now leads a “gang” of ex-cops called the Blue Boys to take the city back.

Koofers.com – your best compliment to NERD.

It’s that time of the year again — time to hit the books and sail to the end of the semester. These next few weeks will be filled with long nights studying, cramming and stress levels running at an all-time high. But they don’t have to. There is a service that is exploding onto the scene that is revolutionizing social studying and the way you prepare for your finals.

Koofers.com is an interactive community that serves the academic needs of users through information sharing. The service provides users with vast amounts of information (instructor ratings, grade distributions, past exams, quizzes, study guides, etc) with the intention of facilitating collaboration and “leveling the playing field” for all students. – Koofers Academic Integrity Policy

This service has been very useful for students in college. The ability to plan schedules out before the semester, see in-depth ratings of professors and courses, and the vast amount of GOOD quality notes — all available at the great price of FREE — has helped vast amounts of students to excel in classes that without the service, would have been left in the dark.

Koofers launched nationwide at the beginning of the fall semester this year — in that time, their Facebook fan page is EXPLODING to unbelievable numbers, and users are using this page as a wiki and support board for problems found on-site. With the growth of Koofers in such a short time, one would suspect customer service would be lacking, or in the process of catching up. In fact, from the look of response times on the Facebook page, support requests seem to be met as fast as they are posted!

All in all, compared to other sites — myedu.com, ratemyprofessor.com, etc. — Koofers has an advantage in cost and quality. No cost and very high quality.

So when you are cramming this year for finals, remember — grab a NERD and sign up with Koofers!

Bans, Bleeps, and Black Boxes

Today I plan on talking about video game violence. What sparked my interest in talking about this today is the latest controversy about Modern Warfare 2. Here is a short video of the level which has caused the latest backlash against video games.

Warning NSFW and can be a bit much for some people to watch.

This is from a level in the single player campaign. You can skip it if you want in game and you can go through the whole level with out shooting any civilians. I stand by the decision of Infinity Ward to put this in the game because I feel like it brings out a lot of emotion  in the story.

I have been an advocate of anti censorship my whole life. In fact my senior thesis in college was on this very subject. Video games are just the latest scape goat in a long history of media to get blamed for everything wrong with society. It was comics in the 50′s, music in the 70′s and then video games in the 90′s. The news organizations try and pass off all video games as being marketed and sold to children. Not bothering to check that the average age of a video game player today is in their 20s.

Mrs. Couric is quick to forget that the ESRB is actually very effective in not allowing violent games to be sold to kids. She seems almost disgusted at the idea that someone could kill a virtual program that looks like a human.

Hmmm….she sure does seem to be enjoying herself there. Shooting people and watching them die. I only put that up there not as evidence of blatant hypocrisy, but as showing you can have fun with violent games because you know its fake.

Well I don’t want to bring anyone’s weekend down with more negativity so heres a fun video for all those fighting game fans who spam one move over and over again.

Stay Focused and NERDy out there

A reboot of REBOOT.

Now if you understood what I said in that title you will already be excited. For everyone one else let me explain. A reboot is when they take a well-known series of either movies or T.V. shows and start it over from the beginning with a new cast and a reworking of the original story. A few good examples of this is the new Nightmare on Elm Street movie or the V miniseries coming to T.V. soon.

Reboot is a completely CG-I T.V. series from the late 90′s to early 2000′s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReBoot

Rainmaker studios (formely Mainframe entertainment) will be making a movie trilogy set to take place after season four. The first movie is slated to come out sometime in 2010.

So for those eagerly awaiting fans, here it is.

Thats it, just a quick ten second clip of how the new movie will look. I’m excited and await any other news to come out. Don’t worry everyone, I plan on doing my usual weekly post. This time with a halloween theme.

To Mend and Defend…and drink NERD

Slim PS3 250GB for $350

Sony has announced a PlayStation 3 Slim with 250GB of storage space. It will be on sale on November 3. Except for having a hard drive a little more than twice as large, it’s apparently identical to the 120GB model that sells for $300. Awesome.
